As the demand for digital audiobooks grows, so does the need for people who know how to work with audio, whether it’s directly handling audio files in various formats or understanding the specific needs of an audio workflow. For ebook professionals who have found themselves suddenly tasked with some aspect of audiobook production because they’re the most digitally savvy person at the office, or for those who just want to expand their skill set beyond ebooks, this session will provide valuable insights.

Kevin will cover basic audio workflows, tools, terms, and roles; how the requirements of various audiobook vendors differ or stay consistent throughout the industry; commonly used audio formats and their different use cases; and how to handle common editing requests or problems if you’re working directly with audio files.

To provide context so you are well-equipped to work in an audiobook environment, even if you’re not working directly with audio assets, the session will also touch on: how to prepare materials to make an engineer’s life easier; how publishers and e-production teams can effectively communicate with audio professionals; the differences between working with engineers and talent in-person vs. remotely; and current and upcoming trends in audio production.
