Recommendation systems are usually perceived as designed for end consumers. However, they can be leveraged for all intermediaries in the book value chain. Such tools would help in selecting relevant titles from an ever-larger corpus and help in the discoverability. Coupled with the expertise and knowledge of the markets from all the various actors along the value chain, these systems present a great potential and opportunities to seize.

The objective of this workshop is to discuss opportunities to develop recommendation systems for these intermediaries, both as a new marketing and sales tool. The design, marketing, and use of recommendation systems have been strongly impacted by the massive amount of data and metadata available and the new artificial intelligence algorithms that allow their processing. Workshop participants will be divided into small groups and design a recommendation system, exploring different intermediaries and the properties of recommendation systems.
